The twelve-week program · Chapter 18

Weeks 9 and 10: the bottom and the long phrase

Two weeks on the low register, which rewards release rather than effort, and on carrying a long phrase without running the tank dry.

Move on when: A phrase held for longer than your week-one sustain, at the bottom of your comfortable range rather than the middle.

The evidence comes from the breath room, which is where this app measures it.

When it does not pass, the blocker is usually this one. Volume, not length. Low notes are quiet, and a sustain that ends early at the bottom often ended because the level fell under the gate rather than because the breath ran out.

What passing does not prove: That the low note is usable in a song. A held tone in a quiet room is not the same as a low line under a band.
