Suede Sing

A vocal training app that measures your singing voice

Suede Sing

Your voice has a signature. Suede Sing reads it — range, register transitions, breath support, resonance, vibrato — every session, on-device. The result is your TonePrint, and a practice plan built from it.

Start here in your browser — no install required. The iPhone companion is optional when you want deeper on-device voice analysis.

Where to start

Two ways in, depending on where you're starting

Everything below is free and open right now. These are just the two orders that waste the least time.

If you've never had a lesson

Start with what your voice already does

You don't need to know your voice type, read music, or own anything but a microphone. Three rooms in this order answer the questions beginners actually arrive with.

  1. Test your rangeTwo minutes. You get your lowest and highest notes and the voice type they suggest.
  2. Sing a guided warmupFollow a short pattern and get scored as you go. Quiet and easy on purpose.
  3. Watch your pitch liveSee the note you're singing against the note you meant — which is how off-key becomes fixable.

Fifteen minutes in, you know your range, your voice type, and whether you tend to sit under the note.

If you already sing

Go straight to what's actually limiting you

The interesting numbers aren't the extremes. They're where tone drifts on a held note, which intervals you round off, and what the voice does through the passaggio.

  1. Hunt the driftSustain long notes and watch for a slow sag — usually support showing up as a pitch problem.
  2. Find your weak intervalsMost trained ears have a distinct slippery set. Drill those instead of the whole twelve.
  3. Change one thing and A/B itSame phrase, one variable, back to back. The comparison that shows whether a change helped.

Then let the coach keep score: Pro charts per-note accuracy and range history, and plans tomorrow around your weak notes.

Optional iPhone companion

Keep the browser studio. Add deeper analysis on iPhone.

The web studio gives you live pitch, range and guided practice, free with no install required. If you want more detail, the optional iPhone companion adds an analysis layer: every sustained note becomes a row of objective measurements, and the result is your TonePrint.

  • Suede Sing iOS app: progress tracking across sessions

    Track the work

H1−H2 differential
The amplitude gap between the first two harmonics of a sustained note. Near zero reads as chest voice; +6 dB or more reads as falsetto.
Passaggio mapping
Where your voice changes mechanism, found by sweeping pitch and watching that differential invert — entry and exit frequency, both reported.
Spectral tilt
How fast harmonic energy falls away across H1–H4, in dB per octave. A steeper slope means a lighter, more falsetto-like source.
Cepstral peak prominence
A standard clinical measure of how periodic a tone is. Higher values track with clearer, less breathy phonation.

Analysis runs on the phone. What used to need a sound booth and a Praat script now runs in the background of a session you already wanted to record.

Side by side

The whole toolkit, without the paywall

Most trainers do a few of these things, behind a subscription or an install requirement. Suede Sing does all of them, free, on the web.
